New research from Merchant Machine reveals the best-suited jobs and cities for introverts.
- Physicists, machine operatives and marketing professionals are the best-suited jobs for those that like to work alone
- With less than four people per square meter, Canada, Australia and Iceland are the least socially draining countries

November 2020: A new study by Merchant Machine has analysed the social interactions required in different industries to determine the best jobs for introverts. The payment specialist also looked at the best places to live as an introvert by ranking the least populated countries according to the quality of their WiFi, average salary and cost of living. The top 10 jobs for introverts?
Being an introvert is often misunderstood and mistakenly seen as socially anxious when in reality introverts just get their energy by spending time alone with their thoughts.
Workplaces, in general, tend to reward extroverts for their social skills, but introverts have many qualities that make them wonderful employees and leaders.
By looking at the average salary, remote working capability Merchant Machine have worked out the top jobs for introverts.
The social score is based on a range of social business behaviours – the degree of contact with others, teamworking, contact with external customers, face-to-face discussions, establishing interpersonal relationships and communicating with peers. The higher the social score the less social interaction is required for that job.
What about covid-safe professions?
What if among the best-suited jobs for introverts were also the professions the most likely to thrive during the pandemic? After establishing the list of careers for introverts, Merchant Machine determined their remote work capability using data from an ONS survey.
Dream introvert jobs
Data says that the above jobs are the best career paths for introverts but what about dream introvert jobs?
Introverts will often thrive in positions that require analytical skills, where they have the freedom to operate autonomously and in a quiet environment. This alongside lone-working, uniqueness and an ability for introverts to allow their brains to dream big has declared the below to be dream jobs for introverts. Race car mechanic anyone?

Dennis Relojo-Howell, founder of psychology website Psychreg, explains:
“Crowds can drain energy from introverts, so this lockdown might have been favourable for them in becoming even more productive. With introverts’ innate ability to focus, they can be a particular asset to the company. They can be well attuned to capturing why your clients really need and they can propose unique solutions to improve your company’s performance.”
