Construction early careers platform reports seven-fold application increase in 2023

A construction early careers platform has reported a seven-fold increase in apprenticeship, traineeship and job applications throughout 2023.

Talentview Construction, which launched in late 2021, has seen a significant surge in interest with more than 9,515 platform user registrations and 27,555 application clicks by the end of November last year. Latest figures also show that since December 2022, the number of new recruits looking for construction roles has gone up by 190%, from 78,559 to 227,770 vacancy views by the end of November.

There are currently 640 roles on the site, spanning an array of construction opportunities, from sustainability to civil engineering, chartered surveying, highways maintenance, biodiversity, plus trades, including plumbing, electrics and bricklaying. Talentview Construction believes dedicated engagement with employers and would-be recruits, as well as sector-wide work to drive awareness of the diverse careers in construction, are some of the reasons behind the increased activity.

Christian Warden, engagement director for Talentview Construction, said: “The last 12 months have proven to be another pivotal year as awareness of and enthusiasm for the platform has continued to grow, particularly among new recruits. We’re encouraged by these figures as they show more appetite to enter into a career in construction and demand for work in our sector, so when the economic upturn comes, we’ll be ready.”

Throughout 2023, the platform was also widely used by 1,780 UK-wide employers to post roles and find their future construction workforce. The busiest months for job uploads occurred in spring, with 1,105 live vacancies shared by 79 companies at the end of March, closely followed by 1,092 roles at the end of April. Currently, live vacancies on the site remain on a part with last year’s levels at around 650.

Key takeaways include:

  1. The total number of candidates has risen by 189% (from 3,297 to 9,515)
  2. February to May 2023 saw the highest number of live vacancies, with 958, 1,105, 1,092, 910 respectively
  3. Vacancy views soared by 190% (from 78,559 to 227,770)
  4. Applications have increased by a massive 608% (from 3,891 to 27,555)
  5. March, April and June had the most companies with live vacancies, at 79, 75 and 72.

Christian Warden added: “We received significantly more recruits, more vacancy hits and more applications in 2023, with peak activity points notably being recorded towards the start of last year for employers posting roles, and at the end of the year with applicants applying. It’s great to see the platform has gained such momentum among employers and future workers and we are looking forward to continuing to build upon our successes throughout 2024 and beyond.”

Talentview Construction enables candidates to browse opportunities by signing up for job and training opportunity alerts, get advice on construction job roles and the best routes into the industry, and build their online profile so employers can find them.

Employers can use the platform to showcase their business to talented new recruits and share early career vacancies, including traineeships, apprenticeships and graduate jobs. They can also search for suitable candidates and directly contact students and apprentices, as well as connect more closely with schools, universities and construction colleges.
