24.6% of flooring sold by one of the fastest growing retailers, Flooring Superstore, is grey. But for homeowners looking to update their home with a new carpet in a different shade, the retailer has revealed its five most popular alternatives:
1: White and bright
Ivy and white coloured carpets provide the perfect base for a range of different looks, from minimalist to monochrome. Some homeowners may be worried about the practicalities of keeping a light coloured carpet clean, but new modern materials are bleach cleanable, such as this Avondale Almond White Carpet (£19.99 per square metre).
2: A nod to neutrals
Soft beiges, sand tones and subtle creams are also popular and perfect for tapping into the natural or eco chic interior trends. These tones also blend well with a wide range of colour schemes, whether you want to opt for bright or bold colours on the walls or continue the natural palette throughout the home. The Forest Twist Light Brown (£5.99 per square metre) is one of the most popular kinds of carpets being produced and is made from yarn that is twisted tightly together.
3: Rich chocolate tones
Dark wooden flooring is popular for homeowners, and for spaces such as the living room where people want a cosier feeling underfoot, they’re extending these rich, chocolate tones into their carpet. The Midtown Mocha (£6.49 per square metre) has flecks of brown, caramel and beige, giving a luxurious finish.
4: Bold blue
Whether teal, cornflower or navy, there is a huge array of blue carpets that are making waves with homeowners. Darker blues in particular are becoming a safe alternative to greys and compliment a range of other colours, such as blush pinks and mustard yellows. The Lavernock Horizon Storm (£37.99 per square metre) combines deep blues with lighter blue lines to create a modern design.
5: Going green
Greens are another firm favourite, with sales of Poseidon Maritime (£42.99 per square metre) the most popular colour in the new Serene range. And as it’s made from recycled waste such as abandoned fishing nets collected from the Ocean, it’s also a greener, more environmental choice.
Darryl Money, Purchasing Manager at Flooring Superstore, said:
“Grey continues to be a firm favourite with customers, and with a whole range of tones from light to dark grey there’s a choice to suit all kinds of styles. More and more though, we’re finding homeowners are beginning to look for alternatives. Flooring is seen as an investment and something that you don’t want to replace every time you want to update your interiors, so neutral carpets will always be popular as they provide a great base for a huge range of different looks. But blues and greens – especially in jewel tones – are becoming increasingly popular. These striking looks can look great against contrasting, bright coloured walls, or people can opt for a more subtle palette elsewhere in the room. Overall, these blue and green tones are luxurious and inject interest and style into the home.”
