Crown Decorating Centres is calling on all decorators in the UK to get involved in its Can Back scheme and play their part in helping to recycle every paint can sold through the network.
Through the Can Back scheme, which Crown has successfully run since 2013, CDC account holders are able to drop off their empty paint cans to any one of 120 Crown Decorating Centres across the country, free of charge. And this year, the scheme has been extended to include paint cans from any manufacturer, not just Crown Paints products. The only stipulation is that cans must be completely clean and dry to be accepted.
Working in partnership with social enterprise company, NIMTECH, which is based at Crown’s two manufacturing plants in Darwen and Hull, all the paint cans returned through the scheme will be fully recycled. In the last 12 months, 200 tonnes of cans were recycled by NIMTECH through the Can Back scheme and the ambitious target this year is to collect and recycle every single can sold through the CDC network.
Naiem Wafa, Crown Decorating Centre director, commented, “We’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment and tackling the issue of plastic waste is high on the agenda for us. The Can Back scheme is a really simple way for all our customers to play their part and I’m sure together we’ll reach our target this year.
“We wanted to encourage as many customers as possible to back the scheme and benefit from it too, which is why we’re accepting any paint can from any manufacturer. Let’s all work together to play our part to make the sector more sustainable for future generations – one can at a time.”
