One rather interesting, and unexpected, result of the pandemic (mainly due to the need to work from home) was the market growth in demand for garden rooms, which could also be used as home offices.
During this period, several companies came into the market to provide these facilities, often using new products created with new techniques. This type of structure also benefits from the fact that it doesn’t require planning permission.
Apparently, statistics show that this is still a growth sector with people still deciding to change their work-life balance permanently and continuing to work for all or a proportion of their time from these new spaces.
One such company, who make a range of spectacular, bespoke garden rooms, is Sussex Crafted. As an option for their customers they decided to look for an eco-friendly toilet solution which required no plumbing or connection to the main sewer, which, in some situations, might not be available, or could be prohibitively expensive.
Aldermaston based Pump Technology Ltd, a company with over 30 years expertise in this sector, offered a unique solution in the form of the Cinderella incineration toilet.
This is a waterless, environmentally friendly waste solution. The only residue is tiny amounts of sterile, inert, grey ash, no fossil fumes or smoke from the flue, just hot air!
Powered by LPG or mains electricity, these toilets have been designed to look exactly like normal, domestic WC’s. However, once used, a button on the control panel is pressed and the automatic incineration sequence is started.
Other than maintaining the system by cleaning, and let’s face it all toilets need cleaning, the only other task is emptying the minimal amount of residual ash. This is about half a teacup a week with four people using the unit and can be safely put into household waste or simply be tipped onto the garden.
