Saniflo and Kinedo combo revitalises cricket club facilities

The Kinedo Eden quadrant shower cubicle and the Sanifloor shower pump have helped inject new life into a bastion of quintessential English heritage in East Staffordshire.

Uttoxeter Cricket Club, nestled in the serene surroundings of Marchington, East Staffordshire, found itself in a challenging situation when it had to relocate to a new ground in 2019 due to changes in its former location. The facilities at the new venue, steeped in cricket history dating back to the early 1900s, had been unused since 2004. However, with the support of volunteers and partnerships with organisations like NatWest Cricket Force, the club refurbished the ground and clubhouse, ushering in a new era of cricketing activity in the region.

Despite the successful refurbishment efforts, the club still had some infrastructural gaps, particularly in providing adequate facilities for players, umpires, and other stakeholders. One such gap was the need for a shower in the Umpire Changing Room which would help the club provide the facilities for higher-level competitions.

Limited funds meant full price solutions were beyond the reach of the small, but ambitious club, but Saniflo was able to help with a Kinedo Eden quadrant shower cubicle that had previously been a demo model. The unit, though gently used, was in perfect working condition and offered a practical solution to the club’s needs. However, with limited gravity drainage in the changing room, a pumping solution was required to take the shower waste away.

A Saniflo Sanifloor shower pump was installed into the drainage pipes of the adjacent WC and connected through the wall to the waste of the shower tray. When the shower is turned on the pump detects the water ingress it automatically starts to pump the water away.

Neat and precise pipework

The installation of both cubicle and pump was swift and efficient – taking just over half a day to complete. The shower cubicle, featuring glass panels, a shower tray, a valve, a rainshower head, and external components, was assembled without extensive preparation or additional trades. The cubicle’s intuitive design made it a perfect fit for the club’s requirements, providing a hygienic and low-maintenance shower space that met the standards for higher-level cricket competitions. With minimal drilling the Sanifloor connected to the shower tray at one end and to the drainage pipes at the other.

Dave Hunt, Chairman of Uttoxeter Cricket Club, said: “The addition of this shower to our facilities has so many benefits to us as a club. We can now offer a full bathroom facility for our match umpires, and it can double up as an independent shower space for the growing number of match-playing girls we have at the club. That solves a big headache for us. Competitively it means we can happily progress knowing that our facilities meet the criteria of higher-level cricket. That in turn helps to attract new players. This will help the club to thrive. Saniflo solutions have been indispensable for us.”

STEP 1: Hot and cold pipes with isolation valves.

STEP 2: Tray feet adjusted to floor level.

STEP 3: Waste hole drilled through to adjacent room, tray installed with waste pipe fed through the wall.

STEP 4: 32mm pipework runs up and across to soil stack.

STEP 5: Sanifloor shower pump connected to shower gully and to vertical pipework.

STEP 6: Internal panels installed with shower valve, showerhead and handheld shower.

STEP 7: External panels, handles etc are installed.

STEP 8: Testing the shower to ensure the Sanifloor automatically starts when water runs.

STEP 9: Fully working Eden cubicle thanks to Sanifloor shower pump.

The solution has had a transformative effect on Uttoxeter Cricket Club.
