Armacell has updated ArmWin, its Professional Insulation Thickness Calculator program and for the first time made it available as an app for use on smartphones and tablets.
Low-temperature insulation from Armacell is highly effective at preventing condensation on pipework, ducting and other surfaces.
In addition to the quality of the material and installation, the correct insulation thickness is critical to achieve long-term condensation control and the updated ArmWin tools now helps users get this right, first time.
The software and App do this by calculating insulation thicknesses required to protect building equipment and industrial installations against heat losses, freezing or condensation.
To calculate the insulation thickness it is necessary to define the line and ambient temperatures, the relative humidity, thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient values of both the insulation and the system to be insulated (pipework, ductwork or cylindrical vessels). Inputting this information into ArmWin provides an accurate calculation of insulation type and thickness required.
It can also be used to determine surface temperature, heat flow, temperature changes in flowing and stationary media, freezing times for water pipes and, for the first time, the most economical insulation thicknesses, such as those with the shortest pay-back periods.
The new ArmWin App allows the programme to be used to carry out technical calculations for refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating and plumbing applications directly from the building site.
The new online, offline and app versions require fewer inputs from the user, with more drop down menu options and new features including the possibility of entering the specific project data in question and saving calculations to PDF. As such these powerful programmes can be used to carry out all the common technical calculations for refrigeration/air-conditioning and heating/plumbing applications.
In addition, ArmWin provides various interactive functions; the calculations can be mailed directly, the program links directly to the relevant product information on the Armacell website and the key calculation terms are listed in a new glossary section.
The app has been developed for iOS, BlackBerry and Android operating systems and can be downloaded from the App Store, BlackBerry World and Google Play.
ArmWin tool is developed according to the ISO 12241 standard that defines the rules for the calculation of heat-transfer-related properties of building equipment and industrial installations, predominantly under steady-state conditions.
