Tibby Singh tests out CT1

Professional Builder’s Tibby Singh is sticking with CT1.

Over the last few years, I’ve seen a real increase in the sealants and adhesives available on the market. It can be overwhelming and confusing when you see all the options on offer these days. Time is money and people just don’t have the patience to research which product is the best for a certain application. One company that you might be familiar with is C-Tec and the company’s product, CT1. The manufacturer developed CT1 after extensive research and the result is a unique sealant and construction adhesive all in one tube, making it the ultimate snag list eliminator.

Following CT1’s success other products have been developed based on the same ethos. The newest addition hoping to seal the deal is the BT1 Ultimate Bathroom Sealant & Adhesive. It’s produced using TRIBRID Technology. In simple terms this basically means bacteria and microbes can’t survive, making it much more hygienic and easier to maintain. It has the evidence to back this up, as it’s scientifically been proven to reduce bacteria by up to 99.99 per cent, and it’s also free of solvent.

BT1 has impressive adhesion properties that can be used on the following substrates:

  • Woods
  • Metals
  • Brickwork
  • Concrete
  • Fiberglass
  • Glass
  • Ceramics
  • uPVC

It’s successful on most plastics even in wet conditions. So, if you find yourself working in the drizzle, it means edge caps can be stuck onto the fascia boards. The only downside is that you can’t say you’ve been rained off.

At the moment the BT1 is only available in white, which makes it versatile for most applications. However, when it’s fully cured it can be painted with all common water-based products. Finally, a typical 3mm bead will be cured within 24 hours so it won’t feel like watching paint dry because you can arrive the next day and crack on.

Another product that grabbed my attention was the PGB, Power Grab and Bond. This also uses the same TRIBRID Technology but is specifically designed to bond materials together. I’ve always had a traditional approach by using fixings but in some cases it’s not possible, or you can’t even get a decent fixing due to the poor substrate. This is where the PGB eliminates all the problems by working its magic. It adheres to endless materials from stone, granite, concrete, wood, metals, glass, mirrors, and most plastics. What’s most impressive is that it bonds materials that you’d never think about coupling up such as wood to concrete and metal to stone.

It can take around 24-72 hours to fully cure so if you’re sticking something upright it will need supporting temporarily whilst it goes off. I am impressed with the advanced technology C-Tec is using in its products and they have sealed the deal for me.
