Innovation is key for Besblock in the race to ‘net zero’

Changes to building regulations set out in the Governments Future Homes Standard will see UK homes built with a 75% reduction in C02 emissions by 2025.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DHLUC) believes the new regulations will help the UK to meet its net zero target.

Midlands based masonry manufacturer Besblock Ltd is at the forefront of the changes helping to develop both cost effective, and energy efficient build specifications for their housebuilding customers. They have recently partnered with housing association Midland Heart and Tricas Construction Ltd for Project 80 – the UK’s first housing development to meet the new Future Homes Standard.

“This significant update to building regulations is now in force and the new rules are impacting everyone from manufacturers, national & independent housebuilders, self-builders and renovators,” explained managing director Andrew Huxley.

The company continues to invest in new products as well as reducing its own carbon footprint via a recently installed energy from waste wood plant and renewables to provide power for its manufacturing process.

The coming weeks will see the release of ‘Bestherm18’, a high-performance lightweight building block developed by Besblock in response to building regulation ADL1 changes effective June 15 2022. Designed specifically for domestic extension builders, it will be distributed via the firm’s extensive network of builders’ merchant stockists.

2022 sees the company celebrate its 50th year in business. Whilst the current Directors have overseen a period of considerable expansion, Besblock retains its independent family ethos with customer focus, and the wellbeing of its staff at its core.
