Finbra answers Brits’ most common questions about Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps are building the momentum for green energy across the UK, with savvy homeowners already making the switch to these sustainable heating systems. Finbra, a leading renewable energy heating company based in Woodbridge, Suffolk, shares the answers to some of the most common questions homeowners have about air heat pump installation and maintenance.

Why switch to air source heat pumps?

In the long run, air source heat pumps can provide enormous benefits to homeowners, reducing both their carbon footprint and their energy bills. Air source heat pumps have been proven to be up to 300% more efficient than conventional heating systems, generating more energy than they consume.

Jason Finbra, Managing Director of Finbra, says:

‘Since Finbra started offering air source heat pumps to our clients, we’ve seen more and more homeowners make the switch to these more efficient and sustainable systems. Here at Finbra, we offer reliable, long-lasting air source heat pumps that will warm up your home for 20-25 years, and we provide up to a 7-year warranty on some models. If your home is well-insulated and you keep up with annual maintenance of your air source heat pumps, there is so much to be gained from this effective heating system.’’

Do air source heat pumps work in winter?

Air source heat pumps work by taking heat from outside and delivering it inside, similar to air conditioners. While this might seem counterproductive when the temperatures plummet in the colder months, heat pumps can actually effectively extract heat even when air temperatures are as low as –25°C. Jason says:

‘Most places in the UK don’t experience winters anywhere near as harsh as –25°C, so supplied by Finbra air source heat pumps effectively heat your home even during winter. However, it’s important for homeowners to know that during the colder months, air source heat pumps will consume slightly more energy compared to during other seasons. To reduce your energy bill and make sure you get the most from your air source heat pumps, we suggest making sure your home is properly insulated.’

Are air source heat pumps expensive to install and maintain?

On average, the cost of installing an air source heat pump system starts from £10,000, depending on the size of your home. Finbra’s MCS compliant heat pump installations are eligible for a Renewable Heat Incentive (currently available until 31st March 2022) which can give homeowners great savings in the long run by offering quarterly payments for up to 7 years. Jason adds:

‘Making the switch from an old, conventional heating system is the most complicated part of the process, but our engineers at Finbra are highly skilled and experienced in assessing all types of homes and buildings to recommend the best renewable energy heating solution for you. Once installed, air source heat pumps are very reliable and effective, providing both heating and cooling solutions and saving you money, compared to traditional heating systems which work out to be both more expensive and less environmentally sustainable.’
