“Can anyone in this group do a backflip?” Not the most common post to see in the We Are Band of Builders Facebook group but surprisingly it worked. V12 Footwear, in partnership with Expert Trades, had developed a new video concept to raise the awareness and showcase the unique features of the BoB Safety Boot. A specially designed safety boot where £5 of every purchase goes to support the Band of Builders, a registered charity that helps members of the UK construction industry battling illness or injury through the completion of practical projects.
Chris Joy replied to the Facebook group post with ‘My Son can’, and it’s here the story begins to unfold. Chris, a plasterer by trade, was a beneficiary of Band of Builders after having his health deteriorate rapidly. At the age of 40 was diagnosed with a rare and life-long degenerative condition known as Cerebellur Ataxia and is a wheelchair user 50 per cent of the time.
It just so happens that Chris’ son Cameron is an extremely talented dancer and understands the trade given his Dad’s career. Within three weeks was on a building site shooting a promotional video for the V12 BoB boots, raising awareness and funds for the very charity that supported his family.
Cameron shared the impact Band of Builders had while on site filming with Expert Trades. “It was amazing what Band of Builders did and the impact was massive. They made my Dad more independent and not have to worry about anyone else. He felt the natural feeling of being a burden to everyone. But having that driveway there for him is just, it was massive, amazing for him to feel more independent and life-changing for him. Being involved in this project and supporting the charity and a company, V12, committed to supporting Band of Builders, well it’s my way of saying thank you.”
The V12 BoB Safety Boot launched nearly a year ago, here is what Charlie Turner, Head of Sales and Marketing at V12 had to share about the project so far.

It’s been an extremely exciting and successful project to watch unfold, with both seeing the absolutely fantastic work that Band of Builders have been carrying out but also seeing people protecting themselves and supporting others.
