Forget the builder’s brew, turn up the Agadoo

Business insurance experts, Towergate Insurance, reveal that it’s not a builders brew that gets things moving, it’s actually music on site with 59% opting for the traditional radio over Spotify (44%) and YouTube (32%).

Playing pop is likely to increase focus and get the job done quicker for Britain’s construction workers, with 41% saying it makes the workday go faster, new research shows.

With music boosting over half (57%) of workers’ moods, data also shows it increases motivation (57%) and over a third (38%) suggest it improves their mental health.

When it comes to music genre, pop tops the poll at 52%, followed by rock (36%), electronic dance music (36%), R&B (31%), indie (18%), country (12%) and lastly, classical is the genre of choice for just 7%.

When it comes to trade, carpenters would rather chip away to rock music (44%) compared to electricians (60%), plumbers (64%) and plasterers (77%) who all prefer pop.

Regionally, workers in the East of England are the most motivated by music (67%) compared to just 40% in Northern Ireland. While workers in the South East (66%) and Wales (60%) report that listening to music at work increases their happiness.

While music boosts productivity, construction workers advise there are some jobs they won’t do while listening to music, including operating heavy machinery (36%) and completing electrical work (23%).
