Professional Builder looks at HiKOKI Power Tools’ cordless router, which it claims is a world’s first for cordless tools.
HiKOKI Power Tools has launched what it claims is a cordless ‘world first’ with the announcement of its M3612DA 36V brushless router. It promises to make routing much more convenient by removing the need for a power cord. The M3612DA 36V router is powered by the manufacturer’s 36V Multi Volt batteries, delivering the grunt and high cutting performance you would normally expect from a mains-powered tool.
The battery sits on top of the router body, making it a well-balanced tool, and it can be easily slipped in and out for charging.
“Whether it’s grooving, bevelling, cutting, copying or engraving, with the HiKOKI cordless router, buttery-smooth shape cutting into timber materials has never been easier,” explains Nick Chan, Marketing Manager.
“We think carpenters will enjoy using the M3612DA because it really does act like a mains powered tool. We have a great record in producing high quality corded routers, and this really does build on our heritage of innovation and design.”
Easy to operate, the router does not hang around and delivers a fast-cutting speed. It is also compact and lightweight and its maker has packed the tool with a high specification. With a collet chuck capacity of ½”, its main body stroke is 50mm and it weighs 3.8kg, giving the user a sure and powerful feel when in use. It also comes with a wrench, straight guide, dust collector set, template guide and ½” and ¼” collet chucks.
“You can now work anywhere – including building sites where mains power is not available or not allowed. A high efficiency brushless motor rounds off this must-have tool for woodworkers and the trade,” continues Nick.
Following hot on the heels of another HiKOKI industry first, the cordless portable rebar cutter/bender, the M3612DA 36V cordless router also fulfils the promises made by HiKOKI when it rebranded from Hitachi Power Tools in 2017 that it will be bringing innovation and world class technology into the marketplace.
The world’s first cordless router is clearly a remarkable breakthrough for HiKOKI and one that would have amazed and delighted in equal measure our legendary tool tester Charles Godfrey. He was a great advocate of all things cordless but when he passed away in 1994 he imagined the router, because of the tremendous amount of power needed to engage the bits, would always be a step too far for the technical boffins and remain forever cordless. It’s taken the best part of twenty five years but it looks like doubters have finally been well and truly routed!
