Ecological Building Systems has revealed a new lightweight thermal screed called Diathonite Thermostep. 047.
This latest addition to the range means Ecological Building Systems now offers a complete floor insulation solution, whether for suspended timber or solid floors. The new Diathonite Thermostep.047 by Diasen is a sustainable thermal screed, manufactured from cork combined with lime, which is four times lighter than a traditional screed. It is also five times more insulating and six times more resistant than traditional screeds, with a minimum thickness of 30mm. Thermostep.047 offers both thermal and acoustic insulation performance with unique properties including lightness, strength and porosity.
“We’re delighted to be adding another innovative sustainable flooring product to our range. We now offer a range of floor insulation solutions, including our Retro EcoFloor solution for insulating suspended timber floors and Thermostep.047 for solid floor installations, ideal for anyone seeking natural floor insulation for sustainable home retrofitting.”
Neil Turner, UK Technical Sales Manager
Like all Ecological Building Systems natural flooring solutions, Thermostep.047 is fully breathable and is capable of regulating moisture and resisting mould due to its lime-based alkalinity.
In addition, Thermostep.047 is easy to install and can be hand or spray applied with a suitable machine. Once dry, a range of floor coverings from tiles to parquet flooring can be directly applied onto the screed.
This new screed can be used on floors of new builds or retrofits including heritage and listed buildings. With an extremely low lambda value (0.047 W/m/k), Thermostep.047 offers insulation from both heat and cold, therefore solving problems relating to thermal bridging and guaranteeing a healthy environment and high living comfort. In addition, Thermostep.047 achieves Euro Class A1 reaction to fire rating, as a result of its non-combustibility and zero smoke emission.
The microporous nature of the screed is due to its use of natural components, which means the product is lighter than a traditional screed. Its thermal performance and absorption of excess moisture is therefore guaranteed. Due to being made from cork, Thermostep.047 also offers excellent levels of sound insulation.
As well as its solid floor offering, Ecological Building Systems provides a Retro EcoFloor solution for insulating suspended timber floors. The Retro EcoFloor system comprises IndiBreathe Flex flexible insulation, used in combination with Pro Clima Solitex Plus windtight membrane, Pro Clima DA vapour control/airtight membrane and Pro Clima airtight tapes and accessories.
