Family run Yorkshire business, Palmer Landscapes has launched Yorkshire’s first drive-thru service for concrete, mortar and screed products.

The revolutionary new service allows the likes of builders, landscapers, brick layers, groundworkers and DIYers to pay as they go for small scale building and landscaping projects, all in a bid to reduce the industry’s contribution to landfill.

Based in Leeds, Palmer Landscapes, a family-run business which has been running for 50 years invested and installed the fully automated, self-service station called fibo Collect this month. The investment is in response to rising costs and cement waste in the site mixing process, not to mention the environmental impact of delivering small quantities to site and the amount of leftover building materials going to landfill.

When we first came across the concept and saw it in action, we knew that it would be perfect for the building and landscaping trades. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the commitment the industry has to improving how much goes to landfill. The service is highly innovative, with a built-in washing system and waste disposal plant. Cleaning the mixer between batches ensures higher recipe accuracy, automated, shorter cleaning time and a washout recycling unit that separates the water for sanitisation and uses in new batches.”

Purchasing concrete, mortar and screed in the traditional way from a local ready-mix supplier can be discouraging for smaller businesses. It generally involves a minimum order of 1m³ and significant waiting or delivery times as it’s primarily for high volume usage. With this new eco-friendly click and collect service, customers can select from a range of recipes in volumes starting from just 0.25m³. The material is then carefully mixed, poured and dispensed from a conveyor belt onto the back of a truck, trailer or pick up or directly into a 0.25m³ tub in less than 5 minutes. And don’t worry, it doesn’t make a mess of your vehicle, pouring is seamless!
