In a bid to find the very best in trade talent, Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2024 is now open for entries.
The annual award has seen 14 of the nation’s best tradespeople take home the coveted title since its inception in 2010. Now, as the trade retailer looks to crown its 15th winner, the question is could it be you?
Screwfix Top Tradesperson, which last year saw Devon-based carpenter, Astrid Arnold scoop the top prize, celebrates the outstanding work tradespeople do, highlighting their professionalism and dedication to promoting and supporting the future of the industry.
To enter, tradespeople from the UK and Ireland can put themselves forward, or can be nominated by employers, customers or friends, by filling out the online application form at screwfix.com/stt or screwfix.ie/stt before entries close on Sunday 14th July.
Following entry, the standout applicants will be shortlisted to take part in a semi-final interview in August. From there, just 10 will head to final at Screwfix Live in Farnborough on Friday 27th September, where they will go head-to-head in front of a panel of esteemed industry experts.
The winner will join the likes of Astrid Arnold, along with 2022 champion, Toby Peacock, and Dan Lloyd, who topped the trades in 2021, in the Screwfix Hall of Fame. They’ll also walk away with an incredible trade bundle worth £20,000/€20,000, comprising of tech, tools, and training to boost their business.
Reflecting on the positive impact the award has had on her career, reigning champion Astrid Arnold said: “The Screwfix Top Tradesperson award marked a significant turning point in my career. While I’ve always been passionate about helping others, the award has given me a bigger platform to help enact change, including providing greater visibility for women in the industry and working with schools to promote the incredible opportunities a career in the trade can provide.
“Already, I’ve been able to use the prize bundle to grow the existing training programmes that my company offers, including supporting disadvantaged women in the local community to improve their DIY skills and make positive changes in their lives. They’ve been delighted! Often, women can go unnoticed in the industry, but winning this award is recognition of the excellent contribution we make.”
Cambridgeshire electrician, and 2022 winner Toby Peacock, adds: “The award completely transformed my career. I’ve been able to invest in new equipment and training opportunities, which have helped take my business to the next level. I’ve also since launched my own podcast ‘Tearoom Talks’’, which focuses on how we can improve mental health in the trade. One of the great things about the competition was that it allowed me to shine a light on mental health in the industry drawing on my own experiences.
“From meeting the other inspirational finalists through to the interviews where I got to showcase my passion and enthusiasm, the competition was a fantastic experience and one that I will forever be grateful for being part of.”
Dan Lloyd, an electrician from Brighton, proved he was the brightest spark when he was crowned Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2021 in recognition of his fantastic approach to customer service and ambitions for his business. He said: “Winning the competition in 2021 provided me with the necessary tools to drive my business forward. Being able to share that I’m a Screwfix Top Tradesperson provides further reassurance to my current and prospective customers that they are in the best hands.”
Jack Wallace, Marketing Director at Screwfix, added: “Screwfix Top Tradesperson is all about recognising the incredible contribution that tradespeople make day in, day out. Although only one person can take home the title, this award looks to celebrate everyone in the trade – from electricians to plumbers, builders to painters, and carpenters to roofers – while showcasing just how rewarding a career in the industry can be.
“There’s an abundance of exceptional talent across the board, but we’re particularly looking for someone who goes the extra mile for their customers and acts as an ambassador for the industry, helping to inspire the next generation of tradespeople.
“The calibre of applications we receive year on year is phenomenal, and we can’t want to see what this year’s entrants bring to the table.”
