An unclear future for the Green Homes Grant

Following the recent budget announcement, the future of the Green Homes Grant has been left unclear. Find-a-tradesperson champion, Rated People, comments.

Adrienne Minster, CEO of Rated People said:

“It is great to hear that the government has decided to explore other green initiatives, including offshore wind energy and the new green savings bonds, however the Green Homes Grant scheme was not addressed in the Budget and it has proved popular with homeowners. Following speculation that the scheme will either be axed, or funding will be significantly reduced, we would urge the government to provide some clarity on its future.

The government has committed to a green economic recovery and the Green Homes Grant is an important way of ensuring that homeowners can directly contribute to and benefit from this. The structure of the scheme, and its rollout, has been challenging for trades businesses and homeowners, however, our data shows that demand for ‘primary measures’ like wall and loft insulation has more than doubled, soaring over 160% year-on-year. In addition, ‘secondary measures’ such as replacing doors and installing secondary glazing are also in high demand.

We would welcome a review of the scheme which seeks to improve it by making it easier for more skilled tradespeople to meet the demand, and we’re happy to work with the government to help make that happen.”
