Vistry Partnerships employee passes Surveying degree with flying colours

Vistry Partnership’s Emily Smythies has graduated from the University of Salford with a first-class honours degree in Quantity Surveying and will continue to take a central role on a number of the regeneration specialist’s projects across the region.

The apprenticeship degree, funded by the developers, forms part of their efforts to create more opportunities for women to develop their career in the construction industry.

As part of her accelerated degree programme, Emily spent two years developing her knowledge of the financial aspects of the construction process and she cemented her understanding of the tools and techniques used to evaluate risk.

Following her graduation, Vistry Partnership’s Managing Director for the North West, Ian Hilliker, said: “Since meeting Emily, her attitude towards her studies has been nothing short of exemplary. It has been a privilege to watch her grow her understanding of the industry, and she will undoubtedly continue to be a great asset to our North West team as we deliver an exciting range of developments.”

Emily first entered the construction industry in 2013 and then went on to study a HNC through Forrest Construction in 2016. This led to her undertaking her degree through Strategic Team Group, which is now owned by Vistry Partnerships.

After receiving her results, Emily said: “The last two years have been a great learning experience, helping me to develop my knowledge, understand the theory, and practice the skills needed to be a successful Quantity Surveyor. To come out with a First-class honours is something I am very proud of, and I’m looking forward to developing my career as a qualified QS whilst working on new and exciting projects at Vistry Partnerships”

With her degree complete, Emily will now continue with the Assessment of Professional Competence with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
