Dedicated followers of fashion need look no further than the latest Totectors safety trainer
‘Keep your look’ is the strap line and, with Totectors latest launch, that’s exactly what you can do. Thanks to the new Rushden safety trainer the trades no longer have to sacrifice fashion credentials for advanced safety features because it neatly bridges the gap between the two. Sitting between its existing Denton safety shoe and the Williams boot, the Rushden combines the sleek lines of the former with the rugged performance of the latter.
Inspired by the hottest trends in sneaker styling the Totectors Rushden AT is safety footwear that tradies will actually want to wear – and not just to protect their feet. “Our own research revealed that builders, plumbers and electricians who were already engaging with the Totectors range were sporting the latest trainer styles from the largest sneaker brands in their leisure hours,” reveals the company’s Rhys Elavia, “so it makes sense to emulate that in the design of our products.
Every component comes together to combine good looks with practicality. The Rushden benefits from a tough closed mesh waterproof upper, for instance, that would more commonly be found in the unforgiving world of tactical footwear. It’s a material that delivers on the trainer touch and feel whilst a single piece construction enhances durability by reducing the need for seams and thereby eliminating potential points of weakness.
Comfort and protection
Comfort and support is enhanced with an Achilles Heel padding feature. Hard wearing TPU welding details provide a streamlined profile whilst equally protecting the fabric. A speed lacing closure system offers the convenience of whipping the footwear of and on at will, and there’s generous soft padded Lycra around the collar.
“The build quality really is of the highest standard,” enthuses Rhys. “A lightweight aluminium toecap that’s resistant to 200 joules maintains the low-profile design. That’s joined by a penetration resistant plate that will guard against nails or other piercing objects. It’s 100% waterproof, with 360° TPU welded protection providing a tough shell right around the shoe.
“There’s some really clever technologies as well, including a moulded PU INSITE Contura foot bed. INSITE is a company that bases its products on the science of biomechanics and started out designing pioneering insoles for professional athletes. Its experts make use of more than 120,000 3D foot scans for optimum performance and balance, and work with some of the biggest names in footwear.”
Jack of all trades
Importantly – and as with the Williams – a TPU nylon shank in the midsection delivers enhanced torsional rigidity. That means it won’t twist or deform underfoot and, with slips, trips and falls still the second biggest cause of injuries on site, the added stability it affords will be welcomed by the wearer. Moreover, an energy absorbing midsole promotes long-wearing comfort. “We’ve spent a lot of time making sure that the midsole is the right density for an 8- or 9-hour shift,” Rhys adds. “Not only that, the exclusive designed sole has a wear indicator that works like a tread on a car tyre, so you know when to replace your safety footwear.”
The Rushden will equally be at home on a plumber or electrician working inside a property or a roofer on top of one. Indeed, regardless of your trade – and the typical terrain you traverse – it will keep you on firm footing year-round, be you bricklayer, plasterer, carpenter or painter and decorator. That’s a status that is underscored by it’s S7 certification covering (SR) slip resistance and (LG) Ladder Grip rating.
Continuing the fashion-following theme careful attention has been paid to the colour palette. Black, Ultimate Grey-Black and Olive Drab are currently popular choice in trainers amongst the younger generation and that’s what Rushden wearers can enjoy.
The Williams moniker honours Arthur Williams, the US bootmaker, who invented the first ever steel toe cap. Similarly, the Denton was named after the eponymous Bill Denton, who first brought steel toe caps to these shores. The Rushden references the original home of the Totectors production facility in the Northamptonshire town of the same name. Whilst due reverence has always been paid to the Totectors brand’s past, this manufacturer’s feet are firmly set on the path of the latest trends in styling and advanced technologies.
