Apply for funding to retrofit your Euro 5 van and gain ULEZ compliance
On the 29th August 2023 the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) expanded across all London boroughs. If you want to travel within the ULEZ and your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ emissions standards of Euro 6, you will have to pay a daily charge to drive in the zone. If you do not pay the daily charge and drive in the zone, you may be issued with a penalty charge notice (PCN).
To assist Londoner’s with non-compliant vehicles the Mayor of London has launched a £110m scrappage/retrofit scheme. The scheme provides a contribution of up to £6,000 to retrofit vans or minibuses, an option that many will find more affordable than replacing the vehicle. While initially open to eligible sole traders and micro-businesses (up to 10 employees) and charities, the Mayor has recently expanded the scheme to support small businesses registered in London (under 50 employees). The Mayor has also expanded the scheme to allow all London-based sole traders, small businesses and charities to scrap or retrofit up to three vehicles instead of one. The scrappage scheme application process is a simple online form and vehicle owners will need to upload evidence to prove their identity and eligibility.
Retrofitting involves adding a HJS Emission Technology catalyst and an Adblue injection system to the vehicle’s chassis in order to reduce the emissions from the vehicle. This means the vehicle will meet the required ULEZ emissions standards. Retrofit solutions are available for a large range of Euro 5 vans, minibuses, and Land Rover Defenders. Retrofitted vehicles will be compliant across all UK emission control zones – the ULEZ and Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in London and other Low Emission Zones (LEZ’s) and Clean Air Zones (CAZ’s) throughout the UK.
Benefits of retrofitting allow vehicle owners to retain their existing vehicle which may have specialised adaptations/graphics etc. The Euro 6 upgrade means the vehicle can be used without incurring emission zone access charges or penalties throughout the UK.
The HJS Emission Technology SCR system for LCV applications has been tested and approved in compliance with the Energy Saving Trust’s Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS) and approvals are in place for a wide range of applications.
