How to achieve a high quality finish with Geocel

For 50 years Geocel has been setting the standard in sealants and adhesives for the trade.

Committed to innovation, our tireless dedication to research and development has an unwavering focus on continually improving performance, reliability and quality. Industry leaders, we were the first to introduce crystal clear sealants over 30 years ago and we’re pioneers in MS Polymer technology.

All of our products are specially formulated to meet the exacting requirements of an application, meaning users can be sure they’ll achieve a high-quality finish first time, every time.

SEAL IT
Our Trade Mate range was created to provide a go-to solution for every challenge you might encounter on site. Each of the 19 products in the Trade Mate range has been specifically formulated to provide a specialised product for use across general building, plumbing, roofing or glazing applications. They’re all easily identifiable on the shelf, so you can be sure you’ve chosen the right product for the job at hand.

There are a range of factors that can affect how a sealant performs, so choosing one that has been specifically formulated for an application ensures a long lasting, high-quality finish can be achieved.

For example, some applications, such as glazing, require a sealant with a degree of elasticity to cope with movement in the joint. Whilst for bathroom and sanitary sealants, durability and mould resistance are key factors. Depending on the application, the Trade Mate range encompasses a number of technologies, including silicones and tripolymers.

SILICONE SOLUTIONS
Silicone solutions provide a great deal of versatility and adhere well to a wide range of construction substrates. They offer excellent UV and colour stability, as well as extreme temperature resistance. In terms of specific applications, silicone sealants are ideal for use on expansion and connection joints in sanitary areas, walls and glazing applications, thanks to their exceptional elastic and water-resistant properties.

Products include Trade Mate Sanitary Seal, a fast-curing sealant that provides excellent unprimed adhesion to a variety of substrates including ceramics, plastics and enamel. With high movement capability it also remains permanently flexible and won’t crack, shrink or discolour over time. Plus, a powerful fungicide additive resists mould growth, keeping your perfect lines looking first-rate for longer.

For internal and external glazing applications, including the bedding in of glass and sealing between glass and framework, Trade Mate Glazing Seal is ideal. The high-performing product provides excellent adhesion to glass and polycarbonate sheeting and will not crack, shrink or craze over its lifecycle. It’s ideal for sealing conservatories and rooflights.

TRIPOLYMER SOLUTIONS
Tripolymer solutions offer excellent adhesion and cure to form flexible seals with high movement capabilities. They even work in wet conditions, making them ideal for emergency repairs.

Some tripolymer solutions, such as Trade Mate All Weather Seal, can be used across a wide range of materials, including untreated brick, timber, concrete, plastic, glass, stone and most metals. Likewise, Trade Mate Roofers Seal will adhere to various roofing substrates, including, lead, bitumen and galvanised steel.

SPECIALIST SOLUTIONS
There are also a number of specialist sealants in the range, that are formulated for instances where a more general-purpose sealant is not suitable.

fire block product
For example, Trade Mate Fire Block Seal is a specialist fire cement formulated to withstand temperatures of up to 1,500°C and can also be painted for ultimate flexibility. It does not require a primer and is also over paintable for ultimate flexibility. Likewise, Trade Mate Plumber Flue is designed to create a flexible, high-strength seal and be exposed to temperatures up to 250°C for use on applications such as gas flues, Aga range cookers and ovens.

Trade Mate Lead and Gutter Seal is another example. It’s been specially formulated for adhesion to lead flashing, as well as brickwork and most common guttering system materials, including metals, plastics, painted surfaces and PVC-U.

STICK IT
For more than two decades, our Joiners Mate range has helped trade professionals get the results they want. Whether you’re in need of a swift fix, or you’re tackling a more difficult task, you can trust in Joiners Mate for any challenge you might encounter on site.

The Joiners Mate range features gel and liquid BS EN 204 Class D4 wood adhesives with exceptionally high bond strength, ideal for both internal and external use.

Joiners Mate Wood Adhesive is perfect for a wide range of substrates. With a five-minute working time, it can be easily worked and shaped to achieve a high strength bond. For a fast cure, no mess bond there’s Joiners Mate Liquid Glue Adhesive. It’s a one-part water resistant polyurethane adhesive in a purpose designed applicator bottle, for easy spray application.

There is also Mitre Bond, a high strength instant bonding system suitable for MDF, wood, rubber, PVCu, metal and most plastics. It’s a two-part system that works in just 10 seconds.

FILL IT
For applications where there is low movement and little to no contact with water, acrylics are ideal. They don’t offer the same flexibility or weather resistance as silicone alternatives, but are really suited to tasks like jointing, caulking and filling gaps on materials such as plastered walls, masonry and wood. And when it comes to acrylic fillers, Painters Mate has been the go-to product for decades.

Painters Mate Flexible Filler is a high quality paintable acrylic sealant, ideal for filling cracks on door and window frames, walls, skirting boards, architraves, ceilings and more. Giving a professional finish to any application without the need for sanding, the product’s formulation also includes a fungicide to resist mould growth and can be overpainted in just one hour.

FIX IT
MS Polymer products feature many of the same attributes as alternative technologies – with the paintability of acrylics and the flexibility and UV stability of silicones – however, they also have additional benefits, which make them a great multi-purpose solution.

Geocel’s best MS Polymer product yet, THE WORKS PRO is therefore the ideal choice when looking to deal with a variety of odd jobs on-site. It’s the ultimate snagging solution.

It can be used directly on to wet or dry surfaces and can be used to bond or seal virtually any material, including most plastics, tiles, wood, stone, metal, glass, concrete, roofing materials and many more. The non-staining properties mean that THE WORKS PRO is ideal not just for high-end facades but also for projects like sealing marble or granite kitchen work tops.

What’s more, over its lifetime, THE WORKS PRO won’t shrink and offers excellent UV and weather resistance. As such, you can rely on it to deliver long-lasting results.

Also part of the range is THE WORKS PRO X, a high grab adhesive offering instant grab and bond. It can also be used on virtually any wet or dry surface and in both interior and exterior applications. Due to its superior adhesion and fast curing, the formula is ideal for projects that require a strong lasting bond, quickly.

REDUCE IT
With the impact of plastic waste now more widely understood and landfill tax steadily increasing year on year, the trade is more mindful than ever of reducing on-site waste and doing their bit for the environment.

The construction sector is a key contributor to plastic waste, responsible for around 23% of all plastic produced in the UK, leading to an estimated 50,000 tonnes of plastic packaging waste every year. Sealant cartridges contribute significantly to this. Although in theory these can be recycled, it is impossible to completely clear the cartridges of residue, and so they are classed as ‘contaminated’ waste and 100 million are sent to landfill annually.

However, Geocel can offer a solution with the ecoSEAL system, which replaces the traditional plastic cartridge with a re-usable sleeve. The adhesive or sealant product is then supplied in a foil sausage, which is placed within the sleeve and loaded into any standard gun, ready for use as normal.

Switching to a product such as this is a minor change yet has the potential to reduce plastic waste output significantly. The empty foils are eight times smaller than empty traditional cartridges, making them around 60% lighter too – crucial for companies that pay to dispose of their waste by weight. Furthermore, the ecoSEAL sleeve can be reused up to 75 times before it is then recycled.

With popular products Painters Mate, THE WORKS PRO and DOWSIL™ 785+, 796 and 799 all available in aluminium foils, tradespeople can easily switch to a more sustainable solution without compromising on the quality of the product they use.

If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well – and whatever the job, with Geocel you’re sure to BOSS IT.
