A West Sussex builder who had been insulating properties with PIR board for more than a decade says his life has been transformed with the discovery of a quick, clean, irritant-free alternative.
Ollie Cheesmur, who has been running Spitfire Property Improvements for 15 years, specialises in building timber framed homes, log cabins and garden rooms – as well as creating commercial buildings and converting garages.
But a conversation with his local builder’s merchant about the mess, dust and nuisance of using solid insulation sparked a discovery which he says has made his professional life much more enjoyable!
Now, four years into his love affair with Actis Hybrid, Ollie vows to use the range on as many future projects as possible.
His latest foray into the Actis Hybrid world saw him insulate a pitched roof with 125mm honeycomb style insulation Hybris and insulating vapour control layer HControl Hybrid, both of which were recommended by Jewson Goddards Green timber development manager Andy O’Donoghue.
Ollie explained: “I used to use solid board, but I hated all the dust and the mess. And fitting it into rafters was a nightmare because you have to cut it precisely to shape, never mind lugging it up and own ladders and scaffolding.
“When Andy introduced me to Actis I wasn’t sure at first. It’s so different from what I was used to. But not only was it so easy to fit, it’s really clean, there’s pretty much no wastage at all and it works out cheaper – partly because it takes less time to install. I absolutely love it.”
As well as Hybris and H Control Hybrid Ollie and his team use insulating breather membrane Boost R Hybrid and its roofing counterpart, the appropriately named Boost R Hybrid Roof.
“We use Actis whenever possible. We’ve got a few new builds and garden rooms coming up and there’s no way we’d use anything else,” he added.
