A Q&A on Ubbink’s roof terminals

Professional Builder puts the questions to Ubbink on its Ventus and Valetis roof terminals

PB: Can you provide us with some insight into what the Ventus and Valetis roof terminals have been designed to achieve?

Ubbink: With the increasingly stringent requirements for the energy performance of buildings, the importance of an efficient, high-performing roof is growing – and there are many factors that need to be taken into account. These include airtightness and watertightness, insulation values, including roof penetrations and connections and, of course, ventilation efficiency.

Specific points also need to be considered. For example, the air supply should not be placed next to the standpipe or the ventilation outlet, while any shade on solar panels should be avoided. Ubbink’s Ventus-Valetis combination provides all the answers you need.

PB: What about the installation of the Ventus Insulated Terminals?

The product has been designed to be quick and easy to install as a perpendicular mounting on flat or pitched roofs from 15° to 55°. The slim design is suitable for air supply and extraction and the four different mounting kits will connect to Ubbink’s 150mm, 160mm, 180mm & 200mm Aerfoam insulated ducts.

In addition, Ventus Insulated Terminals represent a 3-in-1 integrated solution for most common ventilation systems – combining a roof terminal, cover section and reducer. As well as that there’s enhanced drainage capabilities, preventing snow entry and ensuring continuous protection for the ventilation system.

PB: Are there any specific benefits to the occupiers of the properties where Valetis Extraction Terminals have been installed?

Efficient air extraction promotes a healthy indoor climate while reducing energy consumption. Moreover, solar PV is increasingly popular with homeowners and, with a low-profile design that follows the shape of the roof – and only protrudes 140mm above it – the problem of casting shadows on solar panels is eliminated. That low profile also enhances the aesthetics of the finished installation because it is barely visible on the roof.

PB: What about Valetis sizings and types of roof tile?

Suitable for use with universal tiles or slate roofs, Valetis Extraction Terminals are available in 160mm/150mm/125mm/110mm/100mm diameters. The product fits perfectly with ventilation systems C or D, maintaining the maximum insulation performance of the roof.
