What are the benefits of Checkatrade membership?

Generate new work and enjoy multiple business benefits, services and support with Checkatrade membership

Its core business remains lead generation for its builder clients, whilst simultaneously helping homeowners find reliable tradespeople in their local area. Checkatrade has, however, evolved to deliver much more than that. Today, there’s whole range of special offers, partnerships, support mechanisms and services that makes this online platform a compelling proposition for the local jobbing builder.

The guiding principle of Checkatrade is a service that is shaped around individual trade businesses. It takes into account your typical job, company size, location, geographical reach and future aspirations. Armed with that insight into your firm the Checkatrade team can put together a package that’s right for you.

More broadly, there are two plans on offer. A 12-month fixed membership period promises the consistency of a predetermined quota of leads each month. If it’s more flexibility you’re after for seasonal workers, such as landscapers in spring, for instance, or heating engineers at the start of the colder months – there is a pay as you go model, where you decide how many leads you receive on any given month.

Checked out

Central to the integrity behind the Checkatrade brand is its vetting process, where prospective members are subject to a rigorous regime of 12 checks. These include customer experience analysis, evidence of qualifications and accreditations, such as GasSafe registration. Outstanding CCJs, trading history, and proof of public liability insurance.

Once accepted, the Checkatrade member profile page is the shop window that showcases your skillset and services. Through images and testimonials, it can demonstrate a history of high-quality workmanship. It’s an opportunity to differentiate your company from the competition and build your own brand.

“Current and up-to-date reviews are really important,” explains Emma Grant, Head of Trade Experience and Commercial Partnerships. “It’s what any potential client wants to see most of all and we provide a whole range of resources to help tradespeople optimise their profile, develop effective marketing strategies and, ultimately, win more work. We can help with photography, for example, and social media.”

As any builder will know, efficient channels of communication between builder and client are pivotal to the success of any project. That’s why Checkatrade has made it even easier for property owners to connect with trade firms through its consumer app. Here, job submissions can be added with photos. Contact with builders can be facilitated. Appointments can be made with notifications and updates, whilst there are also job management functions. One of the newest features is Checkatrade Pay, where builders can receive secure payments from clients via the app. It’s even possible to set up automatic reminders to your clients for when a deposit or staged payment is due.

Better business

The Checkatrade mission is to help builders make their business better, and that includes a whole range of additional benefits. “One of the partnerships we’ve recently developed is with Superscript business insurance,” continues Emma. “That means we can actually help tradespeople make sure they’ve got the right cover, and that also includes a good deal on tool and equipment insurance.

“We’ve launched a new fuel card that can save up to 10p on every litre at the pumps. Checkatrade members can access the QuickBooks accountancy service at 50% of the standard price for the first six months. There’s exclusive special offers and discounted rates for tradespeople from Locks4Vans, ABAX vehicle tracking and Big Yellow Self Storage. If that’s not enough then there’s a wealth of information on the Checkatrade blog and members will receive an exclusive magazine.”

“We have members who’ve developed their businesses into multi-million-pound enterprises,” Emma concludes. “At the same time, we can cater for a sole trader who wants to concentrate on their local patch. There’s a huge range of partners to help our trade members get great savings and top deals, which is something very unique to Checkatrade.”

Here’s what two Checkatrade members have to say about their experiences:

“Since joining Checkatrade, we’ve experienced incredible growth, evolving into a multi-million-pound company within just two years. Checkatrade’s customer review platform has been instrumental in building our reputation – giving potential consumers the confidence to choose us based on the experiences of our satisfied customers.

“A major factor in our success has been the constant support from our dedicated Strategic Account Manager. Their insights and tailored advice have helped us refine our marketing strategies, blending digital and printed approaches to enhance brand visibility and attract the right customers.

“Beyond lead generation, Checkatrade offers additional member benefits that have helped us grow efficiently. Discounts on workwear and tools have allowed us to expand our team while maintaining a professional image, ensuring we present ourselves at the highest standard on every job.

“Checkatrade’s in-house payment solutions have strengthened the trust between our business and our customers. By offering secure and structured payment options, customers feel at ease throughout their journey with us, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and reliability.

“Checkatrade has been more than just a lead provider – they have been a true partner in our success.”

“Since joining Checkatrade, I haven’t looked back. It’s grown my business, and I’m really busy now. I’ve got a good name for myself and, honestly, it’s thanks to Checkatrade. With Checkatrade it’s about the reviews – the more reviews you get, the more established you are with customers because people see that, and they feel more comfortable. So, each job that I do, I always get a customer to do a review for me. They’re all blinding reviews!

“Future customers can then see your reviews, see what quality work you’re turning out and, moving forward, when it’s time to do their job, they’re confident. That one job pays for itself, and then the rest is my money, so it is a good investment. I’m busy all month round.”
