Tsurumi Pumps UK Announces Major Tree Planting Project for 2024

As part of its sustainability drive, Tsurumi Pumps UK has announced that the company will plant a tree for every Tsurumi Pump purchased by customers in 2024. The overall target is to plant in excess of 10,000 trees both in the UK and worldwide during 2024.

Tsurumi Pumps has partnered with Carma, a B Corp certified company, to carry out the tree planting project. Trees are one of the biggest weapons in combating climate change, absorbing and storing harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and releasing clean, breathable oxygen back into the air. Trees also help prevent flooding, reduce local temperatures and provide habitats for life.

Throughout the year, Tsurumi Pumps UK will measure, record and publicise how many trees have been planted and the carbon reductions made, so that customers can see where trees are planted and read about the projects and how they are benefiting local communities. There will be a live status report on the Tsurumi Pumps website at www.tsurumi.co.uk showing progress towards the target throughout the year.

All the trees that Carma plants in the UK are planted by armed forces veterans via The Green Task Force, a charity established to solve a number of issues surrounding the environment and helping veterans back into employment. 6% of serving and former serving personnel, and 17% of those that have been in a combat situation, are suffering from some form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It has been proven that getting veterans involved in Nature Based Therapy (NBT) has a positive effect on their mental health.

Pete McMutrie, Sales Director at Tsurumi Pumps UK said: “Sustainability is one of our key objectives. As a company, we became Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutral by 2023 and our head office in Maidstone, Kent is powered by solar panels. As a global brand Tsurumi manufactures products sustainably including using renewable energy and the company is currently building a new motor factory in Japan that will be powered by solar panels. Every year in the UK we aim to reduce our printing and use of paper, so we wanted to re-use this budget to fund the tree planting project which will help to boost the tree population.

“Planting trees is considered essential in meeting climate and biodiversity targets both in the UK and globally. We want customers to join us in our journey to help fight climate change and create social and environmental impact, so we can register trees if their name if they wish to do so following any Tsurumi Pump purchase.

Jim Holland, CEO and Co-Founder of Carma said: “We are delighted to work with Tsurumi Pumps UK on the company’s tree planting project throughout 2024. This great initiative will not only have a positive impact on the planet but support veterans in the UK and communities overseas.”

Tsurumi Pumps was previously known as Obart Pumps. The company has been a Tsurumi distributor since 1975 and the firm’s pumps are widely used across construction, civil engineering, wastewater treatment, tunnelling and domestic applications.
