The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has welcomed Crown Decorating Centres’ Can Back scheme to its Paint Green initiative.
Paint Green encourages PDA members to use existing schemes to reduce, reuse or recycle excess paint and paint containers in a bid to drive down waste across the industry and act as the ‘first step’ of a sustainability journey.
PDA members who have taken the Paint Green Pledge can set up an account with Crown Decorating Centres, giving them access to Can Back – a recycling initiative encouraging customers to return paint containers so they can be recycled.
Details of the scheme have also been added to the Green List – a growing online directory of projects that help Paint Green members reduce left over paint and containers.
PDA Chief Executive Neil Ogilvie said: “We’re encouraging our members to look at ways to reduce the amount of waste produced, and either recycle left over paint, or find a way to reuse it.
“We’re delighted that Crown Decorating Centres have supported the scheme by providing details of all their branches offering Can Back.
“We’re appealing to manufacturers, councils and third sector organisations that offer recycling options for excess paint or containers to share their details with our members too.
“Our hope is that Paint Green will expand over time, allowing members to build in systemic change as part of a sustainability journey.
“PDA members are trained, insured and trusted operatives, who commit to delivering a quality job at a reasonable price.”
Crown Decorating Centres was the first major trade retailer to provide a directory entry for the PDA’s Green List.
