Elmhurst Energy has welcomed the latest house building figures, which show that the Government is on target to build one million homes in this parliament.
Figures published by the House Builders Federation, show that nearly 200,000 homes were added to the housing stock in the last year.
Overall there has been a 52% increase in housing supply over the past three years and the Chancellor of the Exchequer also announced a £1.4bn investment in affordable housing to build 40,000 new homes in his Autumn statement.
The positive news presents opportunities for Elmhurst Energy’s On Construction Domestic Energy Assessors (OCDEA). The OCDEA course, run by Elmhurst, provides expert training on everything from legislation surrounding new builds to using Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) methodology to produce new Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
Trained and qualified assessors will have the skills, preparation and confidence to produce accurate energy assessments for these new build properties.
“What is imperative of course is that the houses are designed and built to be as energy efficient as possible,” explains Martyn Reed, Managing Director for Elmhurst Energy.
“Government statistics show that the new houses built last year will produce 7% less carbon dioxide, meaning that they will perform better than ever. However, the removal of the zero carbon homes commitment, and no new Building Regulations on the horizon, means that the Government is missing a fantastic opportunity to deliver on its Paris 2015 commitment.”
