Must-have tools for window fitting

Next up in our series with Makita, the team look at the tools that can help make window fitting a breeze.

The first must-have tool for replacing windows is Makita’s DJR186 18V LXT Reciprocating Saw. Ideal for ripping out old window frames, the DJR186 is a cordless model powered by the 18V LXT battery platform. The DJR186 has been developed for higher cutting efficiency and increased durability, making it the go-to for professional applications.

Thanks to variable speed control, the output of the DJR186 can be adjusted to suit the application. To increase user safety, this machine features an electric brake that works to stop the blade quickly and efficiently. Its ergonomic design means that the tool is comfortable to use even over extended periods, therefore minimising user fatigue.

In addition, the DGA467Z 18V LXT (115mm) Brushless Angle Grinder can be used to cut metal frames or brickwork quickly and effortlessly. To ensure efficiency, the unit features variable speed control, an electronic current limiter that works to protect the machine against overload and Automatic Torque Drive Technology (ADT) that automatically changes the cutting speed according to the load conditions to maintain optimum operation conditions. In addition, Active Feedback Sensing Technology (AFT) will shut down the tool if the rotation speed suddenly slows down to protect the tool from damage and the operator from injury.

For safety, the DGA467Z includes an anti-restart function that prevents the tool from accidentally starting up if the trigger has been left in the ‘on position’ when a replacement battery is connected. It also features a battery fuel gauge so that operators can always check that the tool has enough power for the task in hand.

For trimming timber or PVCu sills and edging strips, the DKP181 18V LXT Brushless Planer is ideal. With ADT and the ability to easily adjust the cutting depth, users can always ensure that the machine is working at its optimum. For maximum on-site efficiency, the DKP181 allows for fast blade installation and includes a spring-loaded foot that elevates the base to protect the blades and the workpiece. The base has three chamfering grooves, to suit any task.

To ensure their efficiency and longevity, both the DGA467Z and DKP181 feature Makita’s brushless motor. As there are no brushes in the motor causing friction, brushless models do not require ongoing maintenance or replacement parts. Even better still, as no energy is lost through heat production, the batteries will run for longer between charges, keeping users working disruption free for longer.

When it comes to drilling into masonry and surrounds for fixings the DHR202Z is a must-have tool. This 18V LXT SDS+ Rotary Hammer is capable of drilling through steel, wood and masonry with ease. The DHR202Z features three operation modes to suit a wide range of tasks: rotary only, rotary hammer, and hammer only for chiselling and chasing brickwork. What’s more, the chisel can rotate 360degrees with 40 different locking positions. The LED job light also ensures that operators can always see the workpiece.

The DDA351Z 18V LXT Angle Drill can be used for fixing frames in restricted spaces. With a large trigger, rubberised grips on the body, and the reduced length between the jaws of the chuck and the back of the gearbox, this machine is ideal for use when drilling or screwdriving in areas where a standard drill simply won’t fit. It also features an LED job light and a conveniently located push button for effortlessly changing between forward and reverse modes.

Another useful addition to any toolbox is the DLX2176TJ 18V LXT Combo Kit, which includes the powerful DHP481Z 18V LXT Brushless Combi Drill LXT and DTD154Z 18V LXT Brushless Impact Driver. These handy machines can be used for a huge variety of tasks and the kit comes with two 5Ah batteries and the DC18RC compact charger – all contained in Makita’s Makpac connector case for easy storage and transportation to and from the van.

Finally, professionals need to keep the DGC180Z 18V LXT Caulking Gun close at hand. This compact and lightweight machine is compatible with 300ml cartridges or 600ml sausage packs and bulk sealant. It features variable speed control, an LED job light and 360degree rotating sealant holder – as well as an anti-drip function.

Thanks to Makita’s innovative LXT battery system, all of the above machines can be powered using the same batteries. This means that users can effortlessly change between tools and tasks for maximum efficiency and productivity on site.
