Evolve aluminium guttering range from Marley

Tim Streeton, Senior Technical Services Engineer from Marley Alutec introduces the company’s Evolve aluminium guttering range

Marley Alutec offers a variety of guttering ranges, all manufactured from durable marine-grade aluminium. Evolve – the most popular system – is available in four recognised profiles: Half Round, Deepflow, Box and Ogee. These systems are easy to install, so much so that specialist tools and training are not required – only standard metal work tools. The patented Jurajoint design mimics the installation of PVC guttering systems and enables quick and easy jointing. Furthermore, as they are manufactured from marine grade aluminium, all Evolve products are 65% lighter than cast iron alternatives.

After they have been installed, Evolve gutter systems require minimal maintenance throughout their 50+ year functional life expectancy. Thanks to a naturally occurring oxide layer, which forms should the surface ever become damaged, marine-grade aluminium products are also incredibly corrosion resistant.

In terms of performance, they have industry leading flow rates of up to seven litres per second (dependant on profile), meaning fewer downpipes are required for larger roofs. Furthermore, as aluminium is one of the most sustainable building materials available, at the end of its usable lifespan, Evolve guttering can be fully recycled.

The products are available in 19 polyester powder coated (PPC) colours, including Heritage Black, which is ideal for refurbishment projects where a traditional cast iron look and feel is required. Popular products and colours from this range – including Heritage Black and Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) – are currently available with only a two day lead time.

How to install an Evolve Half Round guttering system

Step 1

Use a straight batten on the lowest profile of the roof to position a fascia bracket and set the gutter height. Mark the position of the screw holes.

Step 2

Drill pilot holes and fix brackets to a fall of 1:600 at 1 metre intervals using 32mm roundhead screws or 15mm countersunk screws if fixing to a Marley Alutec aluminium composite fascia.

Step 3

Alternatively, if rafter arms are required, these can be site bent at the cradle to suit the roof pitch and installed using 32mm roundhead screws.

Step 4

Clip the gutter lengths into the brackets, leaving a 3mm expansion gap between ends. For rafter arms, secure the gutter lengths to every other arm.

Step 5

Apply Marley Alutec Aluminium Gutter and Downpipe Joint Sealant to either side of the joint union gasket and clip onto the underside of the gutter lengths, fascia edge first.

Step 6

Anchor the joint union to the fascia board using the preferred screws. Drilling a pilot hole first is recommended.

Step 7

For angles, repeat the process outlined in steps 5 and 6. Ensure the gutter ends line up with the corner guides within the angle.

Step 8

Install outlets in the same way as unions and angles, anchoring the outlet to the fascia board with a screw.

Step 9

For stop ends, apply sealant to the rubber gasket and clip on to the underside of the gutter end, fascia side first.
