LAST YEAR’S LUCKY WINNER
Last year’s winner was Dan Giles of Lancashire-based Dan Giles Carpentry and Joinery. Professional Builder caught up with Dan to find out more
“I’ve been in the trade for 16 years now. I’m 34 years old but I started in the construction industry helping my dad tiling at 16 years old before starting my apprenticeship in 2007.
I used to live in Kent up until 2015 when I moved up north to Lytham St Annes in Lancashire which is where most of my work is now based. I do everything to do with residential and domestic carpentry and joinery from cut roofs, timber framing to kitchens, wardrobes, alcove units and second fix.
I’m ecstatic and very grateful for the win from Festool. I bought the new cordless KAPEX KSC 60 and saw the link to enter the competition when I registered it for warranty. I didn’t expect to actually win, so I was a bit shocked when I got the call!
Festool tools I’ve already got and make use of are the TSC 55 track saw, CTL mini extractor, 1010 and 1400 routers, CXS drill, BHC 18 SDS, the smaller domino machine DF500 and now the KSC 60 mitre saw.
Hard to choose which tool I’m looking forward to using most out of the ones I’ve picked, as they’ve all been on my wish list for a while. Probably a tie between the big Domino XL machine DF700 and the ROTEX sander.
Probably my most favourite and invaluable Festool machine that I’m currently using is my cordless track saw, the TSC 55. Had it 7 years now and it hasn’t missed a beat. I’ve cut everything from fibre cement cladding to composite worktops with it. It’s earned its keep over the years.
I’ve been a fan of Festool for many years, I bought my first tools of theirs in 2014 which was a 110V track saw and my CTL Mini Extractor (which I still own and use). The quality, aftercare, service and warranty is brilliant, especially considering they will replace your tool if it gets stolen for a small excess fee.”
“I’ve not seen other tool manufacturers that run promotional competitions on this scale, especially none that are ran in conjunction with other companies like Festool has with bottsmartvan.”
