To conclude our series with Thompson’s, Technical Services Chemist at the company Chris Fletcher will be looking at Thompson’s One Coat Damp Seal including its applications and benefits.
One Coat Damp Seal is tough on damp. This low odour, solvent-based product works to permanently seal and remove damp stains and prevent damp from re-occurring in just one coat.
How to apply it
First things first, it is important to remove any mould or damp. We recommend removing mould using a mould killer to ensure the best results – as if mould is present, it will simply grow through Thompson’s One Coat Damp Seal and any paint applied to the surface. The product can be applied onto a damp surface; however, it is important to ventilate the room and open doors and windows to make sure it is not dripping wet. It is also important to remove any wallpaper or flaking paint with a damp cloth and fill in any cracks or holes in the surface if needed.
Next, apply the solution with a brush or roller over the affected area, plus the space 30cm around it. Always allow it to dry for four hours before decorating over the top. As the product is solvent-based, never dispose of it into drains or watercourses. Instead, contact your local authority to find out how to safely get rid of it.
The benefits
The micro-porous formula allows trapped moisture to escape, without letting moisture in. As a result, surfaces that have suffered from damp can continue to dry out once it has been applied, but no new moisture can seep in and make the issue worse. The product is also highly pigmented and appears white on surfaces to prevent damp stains from being visible through paint for a professional finish.
Thompson’s One Coat Damp Seal also only requires one coat making it easy to seal and cover stains quickly. What’s more, paint or wallpaper can be applied just four hours after application so the job can be completed in one day – meaning there is no need for a return visit to site and disruption to customers is kept to a minimum.
