Colour of the Year 2019 Announced

Night Watch (PPG1145-7), a “rich, classic green” is one of a selection of bespoke designs for the coming year.

Johnston’s Trade have announced the 2019 Colour of the Year. Night Watch spearheads the 2019 trends guide and is one of 2000 colours in the Voice of Colour selection. Each year, PPG assembles a Global Colour Team representing markets across the globe to discuss and develop forthcoming design and colour trends.

Night Watch, according to the company, “evokes lush greenery which emulates the healing power of nature”. Donna Taylor, Principle Colour Consultant for the initiative, stated that “the appeal of Night Watch is how the shade invokes our deep connection to nature, as well as being such a classic, timeless green. The hue is a really versatile shade, suitable for a variety of spaces – both interior and exterior.

“The colour could be incorporated into interior design as a feature wall in a bedroom or dining room; it also pairs well with gold or brass accents. It can be especially impactful in places without any outdoor views, such as the end of a hallway with no windows. For exteriors, Night Watch is a gorgeous alternative to the trending black or deep blue, and it works well on doors and shutters too.”

The Voice of Colour palette, designed to give direction and inspiration for decorators and customers, are this year branched into four categories:

With It (vibrant, lively hues intended for the energetic and spiritually youthful)
With Class (saturated darks that aim for old-school elegance)
With Out (influenced by minimalism and a connection to the outdoors shown in its nature-like greens and organic textures)
With Spirit (for customers interested in seeking colours to match an interest in mindfulness and meditation, diversified for taste between intense bluish hues and soft romantic accents)

Along with an accompanying suite of tools to assist customers in making informed decisions, including a visualiser and colour cards, the Voice of Colour 2019 themes will be available in the New Year. For more information, click here.
